Zero Clearance Fireplaces

A Brief Overview...

A Zero Clearance (ZC) Fireplace is used exclusively for new construction applications, or when adding a fireplace to a room that previously did not have one. Essentially, these fireplaces have a fire-proof box built around them to shield the surrounding area from the heat generated inside it - hence 'zero clearance'. All ZC fireplaces are currently being made in Direct Vent versions and can be vented straight up thru a chase, or directly out the sidewall of the house. Most ZC fireplaces feature large display (flame picture) areas and make for impressive centers of attraction in a room - not to mention heat! Some come stock with fans and others can have fan kits added.

As far as appearance goes, you are limited to your imagination. ZC fireplaces are often framed-in to allow for addition of a decorative front around it - like river rock or granite tile for example. If a mantel suits your fancy, several manufacturers offer attractive mantels that fit their fireplaces perfectly, and save a lot of time and effort. At Rudy's we have picture books with samples of how other folks have set up their rooms with fireplaces for you to look at.

Zero clearance boxes (or 'cans') are also made for use on certain B-Vent insert models. These are made so a Customer can have a certain stove they like the appearance of installed where no masonry (or ZC) firebox exists.
